The Department of Labor – Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs (OWCP) administers claims under the Federal Employees’ Compensation Act (FECA). OWCP also administers the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act.
We are Advocates for Injured Federal Employees (AIFE), the OWCP and FECA claims specialists. We are here to serve all federal employees and workers covered under FECA, the workers’ compensation program for all civilian federal employees. Also covered by FECA under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (LHWCA) are maritime employees, including longshore and harbor workers, ship repairers, shipbuilders, shipbreakers, and qualified dependent survivors of such employees.
AIFE is here to assist you with your OWCP claims. AIFE works behind the scenes for you and strives to assist you obtain all the monetary benefits to which you may be entitled to, including monetary compensation for lost wages and for the permanent impairment involving injured body parts. OWCP defines Permanent Impairment as the loss or loss of use of a part of the body, whether total or partial.

The OWCP administers the LHWCA, which provides for wage loss compensation, medical care benefits
MISSION STATEMENT
To provide excellent service with integrity to federal government employees who experience work-related injuries or occupational illnesses/diseases by utilizing our OWCP experience and expertise to assist them in navigating through the complex OWCP process and to obtain all the benefits to which they may be entitled to, including receiving monetary compensation for lost wages and for the permanent impairment involving injured body parts.
A Claimant must meet all five elements listed below in order for OWCP to accept a claim.
TIME:

Employee must timely report an injury or illness/disease to his or her immediate supervisor or to management

Employee must file an OWCP claim within 3 years if he or she timely notified the immediate supervisor or management
CIVIL EMPLOYEE:

Injured Worker (IW) must be employed by the federal government (or working for the federal government)
FACT OF INJURY (FOI):
-
Factual: The IW actually experienced an incident as claimed
-
Medical: A medical condition exists
PERFORMANCE OF DUTY (POD):
-
The injury occurred while the IW was performing regular or specially assigned federal employment duties
CAUSAL RELATIONSHIP (CR):
-
Physician’s opinion that the diagnosis found was caused or contributed to by the injury incident or federal employment duties
